Winnipeg Citizens Hall of Fame: Terry Fox to be inducted

On Thursday, August 26, 2010, Canadian humanitarian, athlete and cancer research activist, Terry Fox will be inducted into the Winnipeg Citizens Hall of Fame. His parents, Rolly and Betty Fox, will be there to accept the award. A local artist will then create a bronze sculpture that will be displayed on a granite pedestal in Assiniboine Park.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery recently received "Afternoon Tea (or The Gossips)" from former Sen. Douglas Everett, in memory of his wife, Patrica. The 1889 canvas by Sir John Everett Millais is appraised at $2.75 million. TheCanadian Cultural Property Review Board considers the piece to be of "outstanding significance and national importance."
